Source: Institute of Feed Research

On August 23, the Institute of Feed Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IFR CAAS) officially joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (FAO LEAP) Partnership, which is the first research institute in China's agricultural field to join this partnership.

The FAO LEAP is the only international organization related to animal husbandry in the FAO, aiming to promote the green transformation of the animal husbandry and achieve the goal of sustainable development of the global food industry through cooperation with different stakeholder groups. Joining the partnership is an important part of implementing the agreement signed by FAO-CAAS innovation platform, deepening agricultural science and technology innovation, and promoting the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of China's animal husbandry.

The IFR is a national research institute dedicated to animal nutrition and feed science. It undertakes the FAO’s technical cooperation project on low-carbon dairy farming in the Karst ecosystem of the Yunnan province in China, providing a good reference and a Chinese solution for the high-quality development of animal husbandry, ecological diversity protection, and as well as poverty alleviation in the global Karst ecosystems. In addition, the report named "Methane emissions in livestock and rice systems: source, quantification, mitigation and metrics" published by FAO has recently been translated into Chinese by the IFR and relevant units in China, which provides important support for promoting sustainable development of global agriculture and serving the green and low-carbon development of China's agriculture and rural areas.

In the next step, the IFR will further cooperate with FAO LEAP on the construction of carbon emission accounting standard system of the agricultural system and the green and low-carbon development of the livestock industry. The IFR will deeply practice the "All-encompassing approach to food", promote the high-quality transformation of the global agricultural production system, and help the United Nations achieve the vision of "better production, better nutrition, better environment, and better life".
