Research Direction and Topics

The team carries out applied and fundamental research on broiler and layer that targets to sustainably produce safety and high-value human food. Research in the team encompasses a spectrum of areas from poultry nutrition through to feed techniques, but with highlights in nutritional modulation of poultry health, product quality and human health, and environmental pollution. Much of research focus is on nutrients and immunity improvement, antioxidants and redox status balance, gastrointestinal health and functionality modulation, biological feed and feed additives application, improvement of quality and functionality of poultry products, evaluation of feed and feed additives, development and efficient utilization of feed resources, etc.

Topic 1: Poultry Precise Nutritional Requirements and Healthy Breeding

Study on precise nutritional requirements of poultry and biological value evaluation of feedstuff based on the concept of ideal protein, trace element balance and net energy. Develop key functional nutrients and supply parameters to ensure the health of laying hens. Exploit nutrients with potentially health-enhancing benefits in laying hens and their efficiency and safety. Study the pathway involved in the regulation of oxidant-redox balance, intestinal homeostasis and their related inflammatory injury in poultry, and further investigate the paradoxical effects of nutrients. Develop the novel nutritional approaches to enhancing antioxidant defense systems and immunity of poultry.

Topic 2: Nutrional Physiology and Modulation of poultry meat and egg quality

Carry out studies on the formation, nutritional regulation and integrated technology of egg (meat) quality. Study the transformation, transfer and deposition of functional nutrients in eggs (meat) and develop integrated technology. Study the effects of environment, gene, nutrition and their interaction on the quality of egg (meat). Study the nutrional approaches of broiler muscle growth and meat yield. Develop the traceability system of animal product quality. Study the mechanism involved in nutrients affecting the formation and enrichment of flavor components, and develop the directional control technology of poultry egg (meat) flavor quality.

Topic 3: Research and Technology Development of Enviroment- Friendly Feed Formulation in Poultry

In order to reduce antibiotic use and environmental pollution in poultry production, dietary strategies are developed and integrated applied including fermentation feed technology, intestinal health nutrition regulation technology, environment-friendly feed additive application technology and low protein environmental protection feed formulation based on the concept of low protein.
